Dear Friends, The house provided affordable holidays with a Christian ethos in Kilkee for over 60 years. The fond memories we all have of trips to the beach, playing Croquet on the lawn, being called to meals by the gong, Tuesday’s trips to the Burren or Bunratty and morning prayers, are testament to it’s unique holiday experience.
It had become apparent that Clar Ellagh was no longer fulfilling the function it’s founders had envisaged, dwindling guest numbers bear witness to this. Having carefully reviewed our options it became clear that to close Clar Ellagh, however difficult, was the correct path. To keep the house open and witness the essence of what was Clar Ellagh slowly disappear, would have been worse. Our heart felt thanks must go to Mrs. Mac who for over 30 years continued the ethos set by Miss Payne. A warm welcome awaited all who arrived at the house. The comfortable atmosphere and home cooking nurtured the friendship and fellowship that we all enjoyed. It has been decided to use the website as a record of the special nature of Clar Ellagh. Over the next few months we hope to compile an extensive database of online photographs, stories and cherished memories. If you have anything to contribute it would be gratefully received at house@clarellagh.com. Please check back from time to time for updates. Thank you for your continued support.
